How much does it cost to have someone paint a family portrait?

Curious how much a painted portrait should cost? Read on to get an idea.

Prices for painted portraits vary wildly. The main factors are the medium used by the artist and the size – since they both have a direct effect on the amount of time an artist will need to complete your portrait. And then, of course, there is a reputation of the artist – at a certain price point you will be paying mostly for the privilege rather than the skill of the artist.

Prices of Rothschild portraits hit that sweet spot of delivering the highest quality for a non-inflated fair price.

One important thing to resist from doing is negotiating the price too much (or at all) once you find an artist who’s style resonates with you. The last thing you want is an artist feeling the pressure to complete your portrait in haste because they have to watch the clock to remain profitable with your commission.

The following table is a comprehensive overview of different offerings on the market. You will no doubt notice that Rothschild portraits are really in a class of their own.

Value proposition

One-of-a-kind piece of fine-art that looks just like an oil painting and is 100% photo-realistic – for a very reasonable price; an artist’s time investment almost equals to that of an oil painter, but you don’t have to be present for any of it This option is most affordable ticket to owning an oil portrait where the process of creation has been overseen by a professional artist from the beginning to an end; you don’t have to dedicate hours/days of your time to the process Has its place; long wait, prohibitive pricing, will require several trips and many hours of your time. You better like the end result Has potential; a source photo must be superb; must luck out with an artist (quality, style, likeness to life cannot be predicted); very impersonal Will do in a pinch; disposable; a print will never compare to a painting

Meet the artist

alexander-rothschild-cropRothschild Portraiture is headed by Alexander Rothschild. He lends his 10 years of experience as a photographer and a portrait artist to creating artwork of the most captivating quality. Student and admirer of classical visual arts, he has just the right touch for infusing his portraits with the aura of the bygone era. As a result, a Rothschild portrait wouldn’t look out of place 100 years ago, and would not look dated to a future generation.

Pricing

Every Rothschild portrait is a piece of original fine-art and is priced accordingly. I create portraits in several sizes that can accommodate almost any budget. Installment plans are an option. Leave your email and I’ll send you my complete price list.

Have you had any of these questions come up in your head?

  • I don’t know what we should wear for our portrait…
  • We’ve never posed for professional pictures before, let alone for a portrait…
  • I’m not sure if my family would appreciate a fine art portrait…
  • I’m not sure what portrait size we should get…
  • I’m not sure if we should commission a full-length, 3/4 length, or some “other length” portrait…
  • How can my family take full advantage of this opportunity and be 100% prepared for our portrait sitting session?

Glad you asked. These are all great questions, and we have you covered. We’ve developed an information-packed email series that address all of these.
