More and more parents are deciding to commission their child portrait with Rothschild Portraiture. Read on to find out why.
Appropriate ages for child portraits
Children grow up so fast, it can be hard to keep up. There are seven milestones you should aim for when planning your portraits: 8 months old, 1 year old, 2 years old, 4 years old, 7 years old, 12 years old, and 16 years old – each one offering a significantly different glimpse into your child’s development. Of course, if you don’t have any family portraits yet, the best age is now. And to help you keep up with your growing family, we’ll offer you special pricing on any subsequent portrait that you do with our studio.
If your child participates in a dance, gymnastics, or another fine activity, consider commissioning a more dynamic portrait.
You may commission your Rothschild portrait in one of the several classical sizes. A size that you choose is mainly dictated by three factors: viewing distance, a number of people in a portrait, and how a portrait is cropped. The main consideration is that a person in a portrait remains within 75-100% of their real life size.
Keep in mind that longer viewing distance increases recommended portrait size. For example, at 20 feet, 18 x 24” becomes a recommended minimum size for a one-person portrait (instead of a 16 x 20”). You will have a chance to preview your portrait in each size before making a decision.

Chances are, you’ve never had a painting done. Not to worry – the process is pretty straight forward.
Meet the artist
Rothschild Portraiture is headed by Alexander Rothschild. He lends his 10 years of experience as a photographer and a portrait artist to creating artwork of the most captivating quality. Student and admirer of classical visual arts, he has just the right touch for infusing his portraits with the aura of the bygone era. As a result, a Rothschild portrait wouldn’t look out of place 100 years ago, and would not look dated to a future generation.
